Ding Dong Merrily (Christmas Special)
Ben and Susan are in the living room and Ben thinks something is wrong as Susan has made him tea and biscuits. The kids are out for the day and Ben has ideas. They decide to play strip scrabble to music and Ben finds his records are scratched and broken. Nick arrives home and Ben tells him it is time he left home.
Abi has opening a package for Michael, who has bought himself a get fit kit, a bullworker as he has a date with a girl and wants to improve his body. He can’t manage to use it but Abi does. Ben re-iterates to Nick that he has to leave. Susan is trying to cook a sauce for chicken and it sets solid and she breaks the spoon. Nick has found a job and a place to live. Susan doesn’t want him to go but Ben is determined. Nick makes a big thing about leaving and Ben shuts the door on him. Susan can’t sleep. She is worrying about Nick and would like him to come home. She hears a noise and thinks it is Nick, but it is only Michael, skipping on the landing.
We see Susan enter Nicks empty room, she is sad but still needs to spray it with air freshner. When Ben returns home Susan is distraught, there has been a message on the answer phone from Nick, and she says he sounds desperate. When we hear it he is absolutely fine. Ben goes to his local pub and Nick is the barman. That is his new job. A large customer comes over, Nick accuses him of interrupting and Ben has to buy the whole pub a drink to keep the peace!
At breakfast the next morning Michael is drinking a disgusting Body shake to build up his muscles. Nick pops in to give Ben some replacement records and pick up his laundry, and leaves saying he will be late for work! Nick is in his flat hovering, when Alicia, his date arrives. She is not over impressed with his flat. She has brought wine, but Nick doesn’t have a cork screw. Nick knocks on the front door and Ben goes to answer it. Nick nips in the back door of the kitchen, steals the corkscrew, drinking Ben’s scotch before he beats a hasty retreat. He returns, fills Alicias glass to the brim, in an effort to get her drunk, pulls out the sofa to a bed and she wants to eat first. Nick races back into the family home, pinches the dinner off the table, and takes the bottle of wine from Ben as well as he can’t open it anyway as Nick already has the corkscrew. Alicia is fed up when he finally gets back and leaves. Nick starts to serve customers his home made cocktails instead of what they ask for. The barman gets fed up and fires Nick.
Michael’s girlfriend is about to arrive, Michael has worked out so much he can’t move his arms. Abi even has to help him put his arm around her.
Ben and Susan pop over to Nicks. Susan is horrified by the squalor. Ben is excited to see his tv. There is a knock on the door, it is the landlord wanting his rent. Ben gives him a peace of his mind. Ben pays the landlord, so that Nick stays in his flat. Susan and Ben then to to leave and we see that Nick has done a deal with the landlord, and he pays Nick most of the money back from Ben.
