Glad Tidings We Bring (One Hour Version Christmas Special)
Kris is appealing to his parents to send him £2,000 from Thailand. We see Ben rewinding the video and enjoying watching Kris in difficulties. Ben and Susan had both sent him the money.
Ben takes down the Christmas decorations after lunch on Christmas day, and Janey phones to tell them she is getting married and bringing her fiancé, Ches, to see them. Ches is not quite what they were hoping for! Michael wants to keep his girlfriend Molly away from the wedding plans, to stop her getting ideas. Susan and Ben are horrified at Janey’s choice, and would like to call the wedding off. After a visit to Ches Chez, where Janey admits she was told by a pshycic she would meet the man of her dreams at a wedding, Susan doesn’t feel any better, but Ben does as Ches has now offered to pay for the imminent wedding which is to be held at his house in a few days!
Ben is to make the Father of the Bride speech and is determined to say what he really feels. Ben and Ches go off bonding in one of Ches’s night clubs and Susan makes the guest list and is persuaded to add her mother. The in laws come to meet Ben and Susan, Edie is a miserable ‘old cow’ and Ches Senior is planning a divorce the minute his son Ches and Janey are married!
Abi agrees to be a bridesmaid once she realizes that they are wearing leopard outfits. Janey tries to bribe Michael into wearing a page boy outfit, by saying she will tell Molly about the wedding but he finally refuses, he thinks the wedding will be such a disaster he decides to take Molly after all as it will probably put her off.
We see Kris in Thailand, catching flies and eating them with his chopsticks. He tells Ben and Susan he is also running out of food. It is the day of the wedding, Roger arrives as the page boy and Grace arrives as vitriolic as ever. Janey comes down the stairs looking radiant. The wedding is all set in Ches’ ‘understated little’ living room. The guests arrive and Michael takes the presents away at the door, to give to Hubert. One of the bridesmaids fancies Roger which annoys Abi, Grace mistakes Ches senior for Ches, Susan and Edie are dressed in identical outfits and the photographer turns out to be more used to shooting porn.
Ches arrives flanked by sex kittens and the registrar tries to marry Ben and Ches off together. Finally the wedding proceeds, as hurriedly as possible as the registrar has back to back weddings all day. The wedding photos are taken and the reception begins. Susan is slightly worse for wear and Ben and Ches finally bond about their age problems. Hubert has been set up by Michael in a guest bedroom to sell off all the presents on e-bay. Molly spends the whole time searching for Michael.
Ben, much to everyones relief, gives a lovely speech about Janey, and Susan, by now worse for wear herself, decides she would like to say something, topples into Ben who in turn topples into the cake.
The disco starts, and Janey decides she has something to tell everyone. This has been the most wonderful day of her life, but she wants a divorce, she is going to marry the waiter! Finally, later that evening, Janey tells Ches she doesn’t need any money from him and Ches agrees he will now let Ben pay for the wedding! Susan now thinks she will be able to organise Janeys’s next wedding. Kris is still demanding money, we pull out to reveal it is a set up in Michael’s bedroom. Michael is recording him! They decide to try for more money.
