Harper vs. Harper
Ben and Susan argue about his refusal to attend a diamond wedding anniversary party – despite their rule about not going to bed angry, they do…and the bed collapses! The war of words continues in a furniture store and the only solution seems to be for them to have separate bedrooms and indeed, separate lives for a week, with alternate nights spent at the house . Janey and Michael conclude that the separation may be permanent.
Ben cajoles a bed for the night at Roger’s flat and settles down to watch TV, completely ruining the romantic atmosphere Roger had created for his date with a new girlfriend.
Susan, on the other hand, throws a party on her first night alone, but her subsequent stay and interference at Michael’s leads her son to seek assurance the arrangement is only temporary.
Not wishing to be put upon any further by their parents, Janey and Michael try to persuade Ben to fight for his marriage – but it is the thought of spending another night at Roger’s that finally persuades Ben to attend the anniversary party – initially to Susan’s annoyance.
Ben and Susan individually ask the anniversary couple how they have survived such a long marriage – and are surprised to discover that Lillian & George never argue. Heartwarming…
but boring! Although they rub each other up the wrong way a lot of the time, Ben and Susan agree their life together is never dull and are re-united.
